We are thrilled to share an exciting development here at mode40, where we are at the forefront of leveraging cutting-edge technology to enhance the meat processing industry. Our latest project, funded by the Canadian Agri-Food Automation and Intelligence Network (CAAIN), focuses on the commercialization of IoT and AI for carcass cooling. This initiative aims to significantly improve meat profitability, quality, and food safety.

Meet Cameron Bergen: The Visionary Behind mode40

Cameron Bergen, CEO and co-founder of mode40, has dedicated his life to the agri-food sector. From his early days on a dairy farm to senior management in one of Canada’s largest food companies, Cameron’s journey has been marked by a relentless drive to innovate and improve. His hands-on experience and deep understanding of process improvement have equipped him with the skills to lead our latest groundbreaking project.

Project Overview: IoT and AI for Carcass Cooling

Our new Meat Quality Management (MQM) system is set to revolutionize the meat processing industry. By harnessing the power of AI, mobile technology, and smart sensors, the MQM system allows for real-time adjustment of the carcass cooling process. This innovation provides primary processors with crucial data to make rapid decisions, ensuring optimal meat quality and food safety while reducing costs.

The Development Journey

The MQM system was born out of a challenge posed by Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada. With CAAIN’s support, we are moving from prototype to pre-commercialization. The journey involves rigorous validation and fine-tuning at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada’s Lacombe Research and Development Centre, followed by real-world testing in ten commercial meat processing plants.

Why It Matters

This project is about more than just cool technology. It exemplifies how modern process improvements and the right technological applications can transform the agri-food sector. Our MQM system not only enhances competitiveness and product quality but also promotes sustainability by optimizing resource management. The funding from CAAIN is pivotal in making such innovative showcases possible, positioning Canadian agriculture for long-term success.
