A little about mode40

We like solving the problems that make people say, “There has to be a better way.”

mode40 is a Canadian software and services company headquartered in Steinbach, Manitoba. Our mission is straightforward: Turn Data into Profit.

Our platform, the Singularity, connects operational data, workflows, and AI capabilities to help organizations make better decisions and get work done. We back it with strategy, integration, implementation, and ongoing support.

Our roots are in manufacturing and operations. Today, our work extends across food and beverage, aerospace and defence, healthcare, education, and the public sector.

Where you come in

Good product decisions start with understanding the problem. We’re looking for a Product Owner who can connect customer needs, business priorities, and technical possibilities, then help the team turn them into useful software.

You’ll work closely with product leadership, developers, business analysts, and implementation teams to shape and prioritize work for the Singularity. You’ll bring clarity to what we’re building, why it matters, and what success looks like.

This takes judgment. Customer requests deserve attention, and each needs to be considered against the broader product direction. You’ll help us identify patterns, make tradeoffs, and build capabilities that create value across customers.

What you’ll work on

  • Translate product direction into a clear, prioritized backlog.
  • Understand customer workflows, problems, and desired outcomes.
  • Define user stories, acceptance criteria, business rules, and relevant exceptions.
  • Work with developers and designers to clarify solutions before and during development.
  • Balance customer value, usability, technical dependencies, and delivery effort.
  • Keep scope manageable and identify opportunities to deliver value in stages.
  • Make timely decisions and resolve questions that could hold up delivery.
  • Review completed functionality against requirements and intended outcomes.
  • Coordinate with implementation and customer-facing teams on release readiness, documentation, and adoption.
  • Use feedback, product usage, and business results to guide improvements.
  • Identify opportunities to solve recurring needs through reusable, configurable capabilities.

What you bring

  • Experience owning a software product backlog and guiding work through delivery.
  • The ability to turn complex or ambiguous needs into clear priorities and actionable requirements.
  • A strong understanding of software development and iterative delivery.
  • Confidence making tradeoffs and explaining the reasoning behind decisions.
  • The ability to work effectively with technical teams, customers, and business stakeholders.
  • Attention to the user experience, including what happens when a workflow doesn’t follow the happy path.
  • Strong organization, communication, and follow-through.
  • The willingness to question assumptions, including your own.

A few things that would be handy: Experience with enterprise SaaS, configurable platforms, operational systems, AI-enabled workflows, or the industries we serve. Product ownership certifications are welcome.

How we work

We give people room to use their expertise and expect them to take ownership. You’ll be encouraged to bring ideas, challenge assumptions, and speak up when priorities or expectations don’t add up.

Feedback goes both ways. We learn from mistakes, share what we know, and keep improving. We take our commitments seriously and leave room for a laugh along the way.

Life outside work matters, too. Constant late nights are a problem to solve.

Location and work eligibility

Candidates must reside in Canada and be legally authorized to work in Canada.
