A little about mode40

We like solving the problems that make people say, “There has to be a better way.”

mode40 is a Canadian software and services company headquartered in Steinbach, Manitoba. Our mission is straightforward: Turn Data into Profit.

Our platform, the Singularity, connects operational data, workflows, and AI capabilities to help organizations make better decisions and get work done. We back it with strategy, integration, implementation, and ongoing support.

Our roots are in manufacturing and operations. Today, our work extends across food and beverage, aerospace and defence, healthcare, education, and the public sector.

Where you come in

We’re looking for a Software Developer who enjoys figuring things out and building software people actually use.

You’ll work on the Singularity and customer implementations, collaborating with developers, business analysts, and product leaders. Some days you’ll build a new capability. Other days you’ll untangle an integration or investigate why something works perfectly in development and has other plans in production.

You’ll have room to make decisions, contribute ideas, and take ownership. We’ll expect you to follow through, speak up when something needs attention, and care about what happens after your code ships.

What you’ll work on

  • Build and maintain interfaces, backend services, APIs, and database solutions.
  • Turn business requirements into practical, maintainable software.
  • Develop reusable, configurable capabilities that support different customers and industries.
  • Connect business systems, operational data sources, and AI services.
  • Contribute to technical design, code reviews, automated testing, and documentation.
  • Support deployments and troubleshoot issues across environments.
  • Build security, accessibility, performance, and reliability into your work.
  • Share what you know and help your teammates solve problems.
  • Flag risks and dependencies early, while there’s still time to do something about them.

What you bring

  • At least 5 years of professional software development experience.
  • Experience delivering and supporting production applications.
  • Strong JavaScript/TypeScript skills and experience with React or a comparable frontend framework.
  • Backend development experience with Python, Node.js, or similar technologies.
  • Experience with relational databases, SQL, REST APIs, and system integrations.
  • Familiarity with Git, automated testing, code reviews, and CI/CD.
  • The judgment to know when a solution needs more thought and when it needs to ship.
  • The ability to investigate independently, ask useful questions, and collaborate when you’re stuck.

A few things that would be handy: FastAPI, PostgreSQL, Azure or AWS, AI-enabled applications, enterprise integrations, and experience with configurable or multi-tenant platforms.

How we work

We hire people for their expertise and give them room to use it. Bring your ideas, test your assumptions, and be willing to change your mind when the evidence does.

Feedback goes both ways. Mistakes are opportunities to learn, and sharing what you learned helps everyone. We value people who are strong in their craft, curious beyond it, and generous with their knowledge.

We take our commitments seriously and leave room for a laugh along the way. Life outside work matters, too. Constant late nights are a problem to solve.

Location and work eligibility

Candidates must reside in Canada and be legally authorized to work in Canada.

Work arrangement: Remote
Employment type: Full Time Permanent
